Director Ruben Fleischer Has Plans For VENOM Sequels if He Gets To Make Them

There's no doubt that Sony Pictures is really hoping that Tom Hardy's Venom movie is a success. It's the film that is going to launch their own Marvel universe, so they have a lot riding on it. What makes this universe so unique is that all of the characters in it are in some way attached to Spider-Man, but Spider-Man isn't going to have anything to do with it. Can these films succeed without Spider-Man? We'll just have to wait and see, but... if Venom is a success then director Ruben Fleischer already has plans for the sequels. While talking to CB, the director said:

"We've definitely laid some groundwork for different directions that the franchise could go but obviously it all hinges on people's excitement about this film. I hope people will stay and see what seeds have been planted."

So, I guess that we should stay for a post-credits scene at the end of Venom and see exactly what it is that they're setting up for the future films. The filmmaker when on to talk about his vision of bringing Venom to life for the big screen saying:

"I'm a huge fan of comic book movies so I just tried to pick a lane that was true to the character. I think inherent to the character, he's just darker, and we talked about more violent. It's just tonally different from everything else, especially when you're focusing on just Venom. He's not a sunshine kind of guy. So, it takes place at night. It's darker. More menacing. I think that within the spectrum of all these movies, there's the DC super dark, Zack Snyder type version and then there's the Marvel movies and I like to think that we're in our own zone apart from that."

As for Venom and Spider-Man facing off with each other in a film one day, Fleischer told the crowd in Hall H during Comic-Con:

"I think we can all agree it would be pretty amazing to see Spider-Man and Venom face off in a film. I have to think that the studio is thinking the same way and at some point down the road they're gonna run across each other's paths."

So maybe one day it will happen, but it's not going to happen anytime soon. I'm curious to see where Fleischer ends up taking the story of Venom. A lot of fans still aren't sold on the footage that had been released, but maybe it will surprise us. Are you excited about Venom?

Venom is set for release on October 5, 2018.
