Director Scott Derrickson Drops Out Of DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS

Damn. I didn’t see this coming! Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson has dropped out of Marvel’s highly anticipated sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This is my most anticipated film in the upcoming fourth phase of the MCU and I was excited to see what Derrickson was planning for it.

Well, according to a statement released by Marvel Studios and the director, Derrickson stepped down due to “creative differences.” I hate that reason because you know that there’s so much more to the story! Derrickson will remain as an executive producer on the film. Here’s the statement that was shared with Variety:

“Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”

This is kind of a bummer! This was the perfect Marvel property for Derrickson and he proved that he could awesomely pull it off! The search for a director to replace him is currently underway.

With WandaVision and Loki both tieing into Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, and the fact that this movie is going to be a huge turning point in the MCU with it cracking open the multiverse, there’s a lot riding on the movie and a lot of things that Derrickson was going to have to work around when crafting his story. Maybe the creative freedom he had the first time around just wasn’t there this time.

Hopefully, Marvel Studios brings in a talented director to replace him. What do you think about Derrickson dropping out of the project and who do you think should replace him?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled for release on May 7, 2021.
