Director Shawn Levy Says DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Audience Is Under No Obligation to Do Homework Before Watching Film

Fans of typical Marvel movies know a few things going into each viewing experience these days. Since the 2008 MCU kickoff of Iron Man, we all know that we have to stay after the credits to see what scene plays out to tease the next chapter in the story.

We also know that each movie (and some of the series) build upon each other. If you haven’t seen the previous installments, you would still have a good time in the theatre watching the comedic action unfold, but you may miss some plot points that carried over from previous films.

Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy has said that his upcoming movie will have some payoffs for fans that know their history, but he also insists that no one needs to go back and do any homework in preparation. In a recent interview with the Associated Press.

Levy said: “I was a good student in school. I’ll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies.”

He added: “I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn’t want to presume that. This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research.”

This is a great strategy for movie-making, especially when your film is set to reel in a huge audience. Levy went on to talk about movie-goers.

The filmmaker went on to say: “Audiences are hungry for a great time at the movies. They want to be delighted, transported and entertained. And when they are given that, whether it’s ‘Barbie,’ ‘Oppenheimer’ or any number of other recent movies, they show up.”

He added, “The movie is built for audience delight. I think that (they’re) in for a very fun ride.”

I have a good feeling that we are in for a great time at the theatre this summer! Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit theaters on July 26th.
