Shawn Levy Reveals One Joke in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE They Were Asked to Change
Deadpool & Wolverine was Marvel’s first R-rated movie, and it lived up to that rating. With over 100 F-bombs, and all the over-the-top violence and jokes about sex, Hugh Jackman’s divorce, cocaine and more, it was quite a wild ride!
Director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Reynolds have both raved about how they were so happy with the freedom that the studio gave them to go as far as they wanted, but it turns out there was one joke that was just a step too far.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Levy explained:
"The general rule is to never punch down and to only take the piss out of people who can take it. Certainly, when it was about Hugh in a meta way, Hugh was always the first to laugh uproariously. There was only one line in the entire movie that we were asked to change. We have made a pact, Ryan and I, to go to our grave with that line, but I will say that it was replaced with an equally dirty line of dialogue about Pinocchio shoving his face up Deadpool's ass and starting to lie like crazy. I was like, 'Ryan, that's your replacement line in response to, 'Can we clean it up?' That's Ryan Reynolds for you, audacious to the very edge."
That’s Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool’s style for you! The movie was great, and the jokes were a lot of fun. While I am curious as to which joke didn’t make the cut, I am happy with the end result. Deadpool & Wolverine is in theaters everywhere now.
