Director Tim Miller Planned on Introducing FANTASTIC FOUR's The Thing in DEADPOOL 2
Before David Leitch was hired to replace Tim Miller as the director of Deadpool 2, Miller, who directed the first one, was planning his version of the sequel. Miller ultimately ended up parting ways with Fox on the film due to creative differences.
We now have more of an idea of what Miller was planning, and those plans included bringing Fantastic Four’s The Thing into the story! While appearing on the Fourth Wall podcast, Miller revealed a few details about his scrapped Deadpool sequel.
In regards to The Thing, he would have shown up in the epic climactic final battle with The Juggernaut. That would have certainly been a crazy cool plot twist! I think fans would have flipped over it, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
Concept artist Alexander Lozano previously shared some concept art that he whipped up for Miller that included all the members of the Fantastic Four. At the time we didn’t know how they’d be utilized, but now we know how The Thing would have shown up. Watching him battle Juggernaut would have been badass!
Miller also revealed that his version of Cable would have looked different. He wanted the character to look more like the comic book version of the futuristic mutant, one that would have been 6’7”. He also would have handled Vanessa’s story differently.
As you know, she was killed off very early in Leitch’s version of the film. Miller wanted to explore her relationship with Wade Wilson a lot more and her story arc would have led to her becoming the vigilante Copycat, which is what a lot of fans were hoping to see.
While a lot of fans like myself enjoyed Deadpool 2, most would agree that is wasn’t as good as the first one. After learning what Miller was planning, I think that his version of the film might have actually been better. But, we’ll never know!
What do you think about what Miller was looking to do with Deadpool 2?
