Disney and Marvel Will Now Take 25% of The Profits of SPIDER-MAN

Earlier this morning it was announced that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures will continue their work on Spider-Man together. They will make one more solo film together, and Spider-Man will also appear in one more MCU film.

The fans are ecstatic over this news! It’s great to see that the two studios are still willing to work together, but there’s a new agreement and new terms set in place.

Under the previous agreement, Disney and Marvel only received 5% of the first-dollar gross and all merchandising revenues. When renegotiating the deal, Disney wanted a 50/50 spilt and Sony was like, “no way!” They didn’t want to change the deal they had.

But, after some additional negotiations between Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman, Feige, and Walt Disney Studios co-chairs Alan Horn and Alan Bergman, the new agreement ended with Marvel and Disney receiving roughly 25% of the profits, and Feige will remain a consulting producer for Spider-Man.

I think that’s fair, especially with what Marvel actually bring to the table. They ensure that these Spider-Man films are going to be great. They fill the fanbase and audience with confidence in the franchise; Sony doesn’t have that power. So, it’s a smart move on their part.

Spider-Man 3 is scheduled for release on July 16th, 2021.
