Disney Announces a New ROCKETEER Animated Adventure Series For Kids

Disney has started production on a new animated adventure series for kids called The Rocketeer, which is inspired by the classic Dan Stevens comic book series. The series will air on Disney Junior is being aimed at kids 2 to 7 years old.

I'm a huge fan of The Rocketeer! I especially loved Joe Johnston's 1991 film adaptation. I kinda wish that they were making a more adult-oriented Rocketeer animated series, but at least this will introduce a whole new generation of kids to the property. Here are the story details:

The Rocketeer follows Kit, a young girl who receives a surprise package on her birthday revealing that she’s next in line to become the Rocketeer, a legendary superhero who has the ability to fly with the help of a rocket-powered jet pack. Armed with her cool new gear and secret identity, Kit is ready to take flight and save the day with her gadget-minded best friend, Tesh, and airplane-mechanic uncle, Ambrose, who join her on epic adventures.

According to Deadline, each episode of The Rocketeer will feature a pair of 11-minute stories and include an original song. Nicole Dubuc (Transformers: Rescue Bots) is an executive producer on the show. Joe D’Ambrosia, the channel’s SVP Original Programming, had this to say in a statement:

"We are very excited to introduce ‘The Rocketeer’ to our young Disney Junior audience. The vast storytelling found in the original comic books provides the perfect opportunity to create an exciting new adventure series told from a young girl superhero perspective that the whole family can enjoy together."

A couple years ago we learned that Disney was making a new film based on the property called The Rocketeers and it also centers around a female character. Not sure if there's any connection between the two projects, but here are the details of the film reboot:

The new take keeps the story in a period setting and offers a fresh view on the characters. Set six years after the original Rocketeer and after [Cliff] Secord has vanished while fighting the Nazis, an unlikely new hero emerges: a young African–American female pilot, who takes up the mantle of Rocketeer in an attempt to stop an ambitious and corrupt rocket scientist from stealing jet-pack technology in what could prove to be a turning point in the Cold War.

We haven't had any updates on The Rocketeers in awhile, but I do know that it's still in development.

The Rocketeer animated series is set to premiere sometime in 2019.
