Disney Announces LILO & STITCH 2 and Stitch Is Just Getting Started

Stitch isn’t done causing chaos, he’s just getting started. Disney has officially announced a sequel to its live-action Lilo & Stitch remake, riding high on the film’s massive success at the global box office.

The annoncement came with a playful short teaser video that sees Stitch rolling onto the Disney lot in a hot-pink convertible yelling, “Get ready. Here we go!”

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, while the film was a mediocre remake, the movie managed to pull in more than $910 million worldwide at the box office. Then you’ve got the billions of dollars that Disney makes off the merchandising that has been printing money for Disney for years.

Even before his big-screen comeback, merchandise sales for Lilo & Stitch were through the roof. In 2024 alone, the franchise raked in $2.6 billion in consumer product sales. That’s why they are going to keep this franchise rolling!

Directed by Marcel the Shell with Shoes On filmmaker Dean Fleischer Camp, the first film struck a nostalgic chord with some fans while charming a new generation.

The story centers on the mischievous but lovable blue alien who finds a home with a young girl named Lilo and her protective older sister Nani in Hawaii. It's that oddball blend of sci-fi chaos and heartfelt family drama that made the original 2002 film so beloved.

Disney hasn’t released any plot details or a release date for the sequel yet, and there’s no word on whether Fleischer Camp or the original cast will return. But considering the runaway success of the first installment, expect Disney to keep this train moving fast.
