Disney Announces Voice Cast For Upcoming Pixar Film SOUL, With Sneak Peak Photos
Disney has announced the voice cast for their upcoming Pixar film, Soul. The film will star Tina Fey (30 Rock), Jamie Foxx (Ray), Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), Questlove (The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon), and Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show, Creed). Here’s a description of the storyline, and Foxx’s character:
“Soul” imagines that every person on earth comes pre-installed with a soul formed and perfected in a cosmic realm. Jamie Foxx will play a middle-school music teacher on earth who dreams of playing at legendary New York jazz club The Blue Note. After the wrong step into an open sewer grate, Joe slips back into his soul form back in the other realm — with some existential work to do before he might land his big gig.
This sounds amazing! It’s really incredible how the stories that they are telling at Pixar are so big and rich, like Inside Out, but they are pulling it off beautifully. It was also announced at D23 today that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails will be composing the score of the film, which is great news. Their Oscar-winning work on The Social Network, as well as other haunting music in films such as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl more than qualify them.
Variety reports that Tina Fey joked that she took the job in Soul because “its the only way I could get passes to D23.” I look forward to everything Pixar does, so this is no exception. Check out the art for the film below, and let us know if you’re excited for Soul to premiere on June 19, 2020!
