Disney+ Casts Peyton Elizabeth Lee to Star in Its Female-Led Reboot of DOOGIE HOWSER
Andi Mack star Peyton Elizabeth Lee is set to star in the upcoming female-led series reboot of the 1989 show Doogie Howser. The series is titled Doogie Kameāloha, M.D., and it is a half-hour medical dramedy that is being developed by Kourtney Kang (How I Met Your Mother and Fresh Off the Boat).
The series is set in modern-day Hawaii, and Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. follows Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha (Lee) a mixed-race 16-year-old wunderkind who is working as a doctor while her peers are still in high school. She is “juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager. Guiding Lahela (and also complicating things) is her family, including her spit-fire Irish mother who’s also her supervisor at the hospital, and her Hawaiian “Local Boy” father struggling to accept that his daughter is no longer his little girl.”
I actually recently started rewatching episodes of the original series, and that show is actually kind of messed up. I totally forgot about the older women who were trying to have a romantic relationship with this teenage kid! It was so weird watching some of those episodes there’s a lot of stuff that would in no way fly like that today. So, I seriously doubt we’ll see anything like that in this reboot series!
