Disney Channel is Developing a FOOTLOOSE-Inspired High School Zombie Musical
Disney has had a tradition of making new TV movies about whatever is popular at the time. Well, zombies must be popular enough, because Disney is developing a zombie inspired high school musical.
High School Musical was Disney's first big musical hit. Then there was a Music Camp Musical. Then there was Summer Beach Musical something... something. Even recently, Disney has the children of all their classic princesses and princes going to High School and singing as seen in The Descendants. This new series, called Zombies, will definitely take things in a different direction.
The story is like Footloose but with zombies. A town that lives with very strict traditions has to transfer zombies from *sigh* Zombietown... A zombie football player and a cheerleader fall in love and have to convince the community to get along together. It stars Meg Donnelly as Addison and Milo Manheim as Zed, as the two main characters. Also starring is Trevor Tordjman, Kylee Russell, and Carla Jeffrey.
I love zombies and I enjoy musicals, so, of course, I've always thought there should be more zombie based musicals! But I wonder if this will be successful. Also, I wonder how weird and insane it intends to be. This will either ruin the zombie brand for a few years or expand it by creating a new wave of younger zombie fans. If it does succeed, you can bet that Disney will keep pumping out sequels.
