Disney Confirmed to Be Developing a Live-Action HERCULES Film with The Russo Bros. Producing

Yesterday we reported a rumor that Disney was looking to develop a live-action adaptation of its 1997 film Hercules. Well, that rumor is now a confirmed fact.

According to Deadline, Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame) are producing the film. The initial report said that that they were in the running to direct along with Jon Favreau and Gore Verbinski. The studio has also hired Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings screenwriter David Callaham to write the script.

While I’m not a fan of all of these live-action Disney remakes, this is a project that I can get behind. I loved the animated film, and I think it could actually make for a really good live-action film. The story followed the son of Zeus and Hera as he’s stripped of his immortality as an infant and becomes a true hero.

As for who could be cast as Hercules, a reader suggested that Disney will probably end up hiring Chris Hemsworth, which would make perfect sense for the studio to do. It’s not hard at all to imagine him in the role. Are there any other actors you could see taking on the role?

Hercules has a special place in my heart because when I was in high school I had a hand in helping with the creation of the movie posters for the film. During my senior year in high school, I worked for the main artist behind the poster art.
