Disney Considering Moving PINOCCHIO, CRUELLA, and PETER PAN & WENDY to Disney+ Releases
Disney is now contemplating the future of their films that were set for 2021 theatrical releases. While many of us were hoping that life would be mostly back to normal by next year, we now know that the New Year isn’t going to turn things around the way we had hoped. According to a report from Deadline, Disney is now considering moving their upcoming films Pinocchio, Cruella, and Peter Pan & Wendy from theatrical releases to their streaming service, Disney+.
Pinocchio is in pre-production and is being directed by Robert Zemeckis, with Tom Hanks starring as the character Geppetto. Cruella is in post-production and has Craig Gillespie as director with Emma Stone starring as Cruella de Vil. Peter Pan & Wendy is in pre-production and is being directed by David Lowery, with Jude Law starring as Captain Hook and Yara Shahidi cast as Tinker Bell.
It is unclear if Disney is looking to release these films for free with paid subscriptions, like they’re doing with the upcoming film Soul on Christmas day, or if they will charge a fee to recoup some of the theater revenue like they did with the $29.99 release of Mulan, but obviously I am hoping for a free release. This news comes on the heels of Warner Bros. announcing that their film Wonder Woman 1984 is due to hit both theaters and HBO Max on Christmas Day, and it makes sense for Disney to follow suit. The report goes on to verify that Disney is still not considering an at home release for Black Widow at this time. While I know this cuts into the film’s profits, I am thrilled to see more movies coming straight to our homes. It’s a rough time for movie fans, and I am excited to see all the new films that are being brought to us this way.
Which movie are you looking forward to watching at home the most?
