Disney+ Developing a Series Adaptation of REAL STEEL

Hugh Jackman’s Real Steel is a super fun movie, and fans have been hoping that one day we would see a sequel. Well, Disney+ is in the early stages of developing a series adaptation, which may or may not continue the story.

It’s explained that the potential series "would be based on the 2011 film of the same name, which was itself based on the short story Steel by Richard Matheson."

The story is set in the not-too-distant future where human boxers have been replaced by awesome giant fighting robots. In the film, Jackman played a former boxer who reconnects with his estranged son while fixing up an old robot they find in a junkyard. They end up building that robot into a camel.

There’s no word on if the series will continue the events of the original film, or if it will go in a completely new direction with new characters. The project is still early in development and, as of right now, no writer is attached.

The director of the original film, Shawn Levy, is an executive producer on the project along with Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke.

Real Steel is set in a cool world with high-tech sock‘em rock‘em robots. As long as they have fun with the premise and tell an entertaining story, I’ll tune in to watch! Here’s to hoping it’s good!
