Disney Developing a SPACE MOUNTAIN Movie with OBI-WAN KENOBI Writer Joby Harold

Disney is developing a Space Mountain movie, and it will be inspired by the iconic Disneyland sci-fi ride. Space Mountain has been a favorite ride of mine ever since I was tall enough to go it! With Disney developing other films based on some of their attractions, it was only a matter of time before Space Mountain was thrown into the mix.

The studio has hired Joby Harold to write the script. He is working on the Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+ and has also worked on Zack Snyder’s upcoming film Army of the Dead and Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, to write the script for what is to be a live-action adaptation. Harold is also a producer on the film.

The project is in the early stages of development, and there aren’t any story details to share, but it will be interesting to see what they end up doing with it.

As you know, Space Mountain is an indoor roller coaster with a sci-fi space-theme. The ride was initially introduced in Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort in 1975. A couple of years later in 1977 it opened at California’s Disneyland.

There’s no real story or character involved with Space Mountain, so the creative team can pretty much come up with an original story based on the themes and visual style of the ride. What do you think about Disney making a Space Mountain movie? Is there anything that you’d like to see from it?
