Disney Has Announced The Cast For Director Kenneth Branagh's Adaptation of ARTEMIS FOWL

Disney has been developing a live-action big screen adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s children’s book series Artemis Fowl for years. Kenneth Branagh (Thor, Murder on the Orient Express) has been attached to the project and now they have announced the casting and you might be impressed with who they are bringing on board.

Apparently, the search for the right actor to play the title role, Artemis Fowl, was extensive and after they looked at over 1200 candidates, they cast Irish newcomer Ferdia Shaw. Shaw may be an unknown, but the creative team has filled the cast with a strong group of actors to help carry the film. Here's a brief rundown of the story:

Descended from a long line of criminal masterminds, 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.

The cast also includes Josh Gad (Murder on the Orient Express, Beauty and the Beast) in the role of Mulch Diggums, a kleptomaniacal dwarf who works for the fairies—and himself; Judi Dench (Victoria & Abdul, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Skyfall) in the role of Commander Root, the steely leader of the fairy police force (LEPrecon); Lara McDonnell (The Delinquent Season, The Walk Invisible) as Captain Holly Short, the elf hero; and Nonso Anozie (Cinderella, Ender’s Game) as Butler, Artemis Fowl’s formidable bodyguard.

I'm actually really looking forward to seeing how this movie turns out. Like any film adaptation, I'm sure that there will be a lot of changes. I've already noticed a couple of changes in the casting decisions. For example, Dench plays a female version of Commander Root and the character Holly Short is now played by a kid instead of an adult. Regardless, I still have high hopes that this movie will be great!

Artemis Fowl is set to be released in theaters on August 9, 2019. What are your thoughts on the casting?
