Disney Has Recouped Their $4 Billion Purchase of STAR WARS Plus Some

Disney bought Lucasfilm six years ago for the price of $4.05 billion. Since then, Disney has released four Star Wars films that have grossed more than $4.8 billion at the box office. In other words, Disney has now made back more than their investment into Star Wars.

I think it was a good decision on their part. In fact, senior media analyst for ComScore, Paul Dergarabedian, said, “This was one of the smartest acquisitions in history.”

Of course, these numbers are only showing box office numbers and not the money made from merchandise, home entertainment, toys, games, apparel, novels, and licensing agreements. Plus, they have not one, but two Star Wars Lands under construction that are expected to open next year.

I think it’s safe to say that Disney got a steal of a deal.
