Disney+ is Developing a Female-Led DOOGIE HOWSER, M.D. Reboot Series

The classic 1989 medical series Doogie Howser, M.D. is being rebooted for Disney+. The new series has the working titled of Doogie Kealoha, M.D. and it will focus on a lead female character.

The new story will be set in Hawaii, and it "centers on “a 16-year-old half Asian, half white girl who works as a doctor.” The reboot is being developed by How I Met Your Mother and Fresh Off the Boat alumna Kourtney Kang and the lead character’s “ethnicity reflects Hawaii-born Kang’s own background.”

Neil Patrick Harris starred in the original series as a teenage physician balancing the challenge of practicing medicine with the everyday problems of teenage life. The show was created by two of TV’s top showrunners of the past three decades, the late Steven Bochco and David E. Kelley. Bochco’s widow, Dayna Bochco, and son, Jesse Bochco, will executive produce the reboot alongside Kang.

I watched Doogie Howser all the time when I was growing up. It was one of those shows that I couldn’t ever miss as a kid. I’m not really sure how I feel about the series be rebooted, but I’ll reserve any judgment until I actually see how it turns out.

What are your thoughts on Disney developing a Doogie Howser reboot set in Hawaii?
