Disney Is Developing a Film About Walt Disney's Creation of Disneyland with Director David Gordon Green
Here’s a film project that Disney is developing that was bound to happen. The studio is making a film about Walt Disney and the journey he embarked on to create and build Disneyland. This is sure to make a great film, and it’s one that I’m definitely interested in watching. I’ve spent a lot of time diving into the history of Disneyland and I’ve found that it’s such a fascinating story.
The untitled movie be directed by David Gordon Green (Halloween Kills), and the script will be written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, whose credits include Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Snow White and the Huntsmen. The plan is to release the movie exclusively on Disney+.
The original theme park opened in Anaheim, CA during the summer of 1955. When I was in high school, I interviewed a few people who were actually there in attendance on opening day including someone who worked there and met Walt Disney at the park on multiple occasions. This was for a report. Anyway, it was really cool hearing their stories and how magical and fun it was for them.
There are no other details that have been revealed for the film, but I’m curious to see who ends up being cast in the role of Walk Disney. Tom Hanks played him in Saving Mr. Banks, but it’s safe to say that someone else will play the role in this film.
It’s pretty incredible to see what Walt Disney built with Disneyland. I wonder who he’d feel about how it’s being run now.
Now, enjoy this ’90s special The Disneyland Story, which covers the history of Disneyland from its conception to the future projects in store.
