Disney+ is Developing a Live-Action ALADDIN Spinoff Focusing on Prince Anders
Disney is set to produce a live-action Aladdin spinoff for Disney+ that will focus on the comedic character from the recent film, Prince Anders. The character was played by Billy Magnussen has and he will be reprising his role in this new project.
The studio has also hired up and coming writers Jordan Dunn and Michael Kvamme (Operation Prince of Freedom) to write the script for the offshoot. This is on top of a sequel that is currently in the planning stages at the studio. For those of you who don’t remember the character, here’s a description and I also included a clip from the film as well featuring the character.
Overdressed and on the dim side, Anders was royalty from a fictional kingdom named Skanland and a suitor for the hand of Princess Jasmine. While only in less than a handful of scenes, as played by Magnussen with a mix of goofiness and haughty idiocy, the character, who was an original creation for the live-action remake, made a fun impression on audiences.
According to THR, Magnussen had a hand in bringing the project to life. He came up with the idea that he brought to the producers and they obviously liked it. The producers of Aladdin, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, will be back to produce this new project.
While the character was somewhat amusing, he was also pretty forgettable, and I’m personally not interested in a spinoff that will focus on him. But, who knows, maybe it’ll be entertaining? What do you all think about Prince Anders getting his own spinoff project?
