Disney is Developing a NATIONAL TREASURE Series For Disney+
Disney isn’t done with the National Treasure adventure franchise yet! Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently revealed that not only will we be getting a National Treasure 3 movie, but we will also be getting a TV series on Disney+! Bruckheimer told Collider:
“We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active….The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast.”
As far as the third film goes, director Jon Turtletaub will be back to direct and the script is being written by Bad Boys for Life writer Chris Bremner. According to Bruckheimer, he says the film is still be written and then reveals that the Disney+ series is actually further along in development.
“The film version is being written right now. The television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes.”
National Treasure has been a fun franchise to watch and it’ll be interesting to see what kinds of stories, characters, and conspiracy theories will fill the series. I’m also looking forward to seeing Nicolas Cage back in the role of heist mastermind Benjamin Franklin Gates and seeing what American treasure he will hunt down in the upcoming film.
I imagine the show will lean into the goofiness that made the films so enjoyably charming. What do you want to see from a National Treasure series?
