Disney Is Developing a Sequel to HOCUS POCUS for Disney+ with WORKAHOLICS Writer Jen D’Angelo

It’s official, after years of rumors, talk, and speculation, Disney is developing a sequel to the classic 1993 Halloween horror comedy Hocus Pocus. The film is being developed for Disney+, and Workaholics writer and co-producer Jen D’Angelo is on board to write the script.

The original film starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as a trio of witch sisters who had been cursed in 1693 in Salem, Ma. The story centers on a teen who moves from Los Angeles to Salem where he, his sister, and a friend explore an abandoned house. While there, Max accidentally frees the coven of evil witches who used to live in the house. With the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches' book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.

As of right now Midler, Parker, and Najimy are not attached to the sequel, but Disney is hopeful that they will eventually join the project as it’s being developed.

Over the years, Hocus Pocus has built a pretty big following of fans. I haven’t seen the film in years, and I honestly don’t remember much from it. But I’m sure the fans will be happy to learn that the sequel is actually moving forward.
