Disney+ Is Developing a TURNER & HOOCH TV Series

The classic 1989 Tom Hanks cop comedy Turner & Hooch is going to be adapted into a TV series thanks to Disney+. According to Deadline, the series is being developed by Burn Notice creator Matt Nix and 20th Century Fox TV. I enjoyed Burn Notice, so if Nix can bring that same level of creativity and humor to Turner & Hooch, this could be a fun series to watch. At the same time, it’s still frustrating that we are seeing more remakes than original ideas brought to life.

The series is believed to be keeping the premise of the original movie, which revolves around a police detective named Scott Turner and his slobbery dog Hooch. Turner reluctantly takes the dog in after his longtime friend and owner of the dog is murdered.

The project has apparently been in the works for a while now, but it’s now just starting to gain some momentum. The report says that it’s heating up for a green light.

This isn’t the first time the film has attempted a series adaptation. In the early ‘90s ABC developed a half-hour pilot, produced by Touchstone TV and starring Thomas F. Wilson as Det. Scott Turner and Beasley the Dog reprising his role as Hooch. It did not go to series but aired under ABC’s Wonderful World of Disney banner in July 1990.
