Lucasfilm Is Looking to Develop a New INDIANA JONES Series for Disney+
Lucasfilm is actively looking to develop a new Indiana Jones TV series for Disney+, and I’m not sure how to feel. I love the Indiana Jones franchise, and I’m excited about the upcoming Indiana Jones 5, but Disney was leading us to believe that would be the final film in the franchise as this is 100% the last time we’ll see Harrison Ford in the role of Jones.
According to Variety, Disney and Lucasfilm have been meeting with writers and taking pitches for a possible show set in the world of the globe-trotting archaeologist. There are absolutely no details in regard to what they are looking to do or if it will be a prequel to or spinoff of the film franchise, or if it would tie into the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones film.
Whatever it ends up being, it won’t involve Ford as Indiana Jones, so… what’s the point of doing it? The report also says that Disney is “currently exploring a number of options to keep the franchise going, which could mean a series, new films, other media, or a combination thereof.”
You know, I knew this was going to happen. I knew Disney was going to try to drain Indian Jones for everything it’s worth until it resembles nothing of what we love so much about the franchise. Maybe someone will come up with a good plan to keep the franchise going with a good story and concept, but as of right now I can’t help but feel a little salty about it. But, I’m thinking of ideas I might want to see. The one thing I’d be ok with is a show involving Short Round.
If this series moves forward, it won’t be the first time we've seen an Indiana Jones series. In 1992 the show The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles aired for two seasons on ABC, with four made-for-TV specials airing on The Family Channel.
The series explored the childhood and youth of the fictional character Indiana Jones and stars Sean Patrick Flanery and Corey Carrier as the title character, with George Hall playing an elderly version of Jones for the bookends of most episodes, though Harrison Ford bookended one episode.
What do you all think about Disney looking to expand on the Indiana Jones franchise with a new series for Disney+ and possible additional films?
