Disney Is Looking to Reboot TRON With Jared Leto
It looks like Disney is surprisingly looking to got back to the grid with a Tron reboot. We just recently posted some story details regarding director Joseph Kosinski's Tron 3, but it looks like Disney is opting to give Tron a fresh new start. According to THR, they are looking at casting Jared Leto (Suicide Squad) to star in the reboot.
According to inside sources, the new project is "not a direct sequel and is being built out of the source code of the deleted Tron 3 script." They go on to say that Leto would play a character named Ares, who hasn't appeared in any of the movies before, but "he was a key player in that script" for Tron 3.
I have so many mixed emotions about this! I love the Tron franchise, I loved how they moved it forward with Tron: Legacy, and I wanted to see that third chapter of the story happen. It looks like we could see a version of that story happen, or at least elements of it, but it won't be connected to the previously made films, and that's what bugs me.
The project has not officially been given the greenlight yet, there's no writer attached and there's no word on if Kosinski or any of the other producers involved with Tron: Legacy will return. I hope that if Disney does move forward with it, they do something great. I'd love nothing more than to be surprised with a badass Tron reboot.
