Disney is Making a Live-Action HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME From the Novel

I want to be perfectly clear about one thing. I am sick of Disney doing live-action remakes of their animated films. However, I do think that there are some that they should’ve done and those are the ones that people generally looked down on. For example, The Hunchback of Notre Dame or Atlantis. Well, now it looks like Disney has decided to do just that.

Deadline is reporting that David Henry Hwang has been hired by Disney to write a “live-action musical adaptation” of the original novel by Victor Hugo and the animated film. The music for the movie will be written by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz with Josh Gad serving as a producer alongside Mandeville. No casting has been solidified, but some are theorizing that Gad will play the role of Quasimodo. I personally don’t care for Gad, so I’d love to see someone else take that role.

I do hope that they do not bring the gargoyles back. They were fun when I was a kid, but now they’re a little annoying. However, I am excited to see who they get for Esmerelda, Phoebus, and Frollo. One friend suggested Zachary Levi for Phoebus, and while I love Levi, I’m not sure that he’s the best fit. He’s a good fit, but I can’t help feel like there’s a better fit I’m just not thinking of. For Frollo, I don’t have a specific pick, but I hope they get a good bass voice for him. Who would you like to see in this adaptation?
