Disney is Moving Forward with a New HAUNTED MANSION Movie with GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot Writer Katie Dippold
Disney is moving forward with a new Haunted Mansion movie that will be based on the classic Disneyland attraction. I’ve got some bad news for you though, Guillermo del Toro is not involved. He worked with Disney for years to try and get his Haunted Mansion film off the ground, but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.
I would have loved to see Del Toro’s vision of The Haunted Mansion brought to life! There’s no doubt that the movie would have been an incredibly fun family horror flick.
This new project is being developed by Katie Dippold, who is best writing Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot and the action-comedy The Heat. I imagine that’s not going to spark a lot of confidence in the project. While I’m not as excited for the new Haunted Mansion movie without del Toro’s involvement, I’ll wait and see how this starts to come together.
The Haunted Mansion is one of my favorite Disneyland attractions, which sees guests travel through the spooky and creepy manor where a wide variety of spirits and ghosts live including the spirit of the psychic medium Madame Leota, the skeletal Bride, and the cloaked Hatbox Ghost.
In regards to trying to get this film off the ground, according to the report, “the trick with Haunted Mansion for Disney has always been the fine line balance of genuine scares, fun, and appropriate for the wide Disney audience.”
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who were behind Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake are producing the live-action film. What are your thoughts on this latest Haunted Mansion movie news? I just really hope that they come up with a great story that the fans will enjoy!
