Disney is Producing a Musical Reimagining of A CHRISTMAS CAROL with Director Bill Condon Called MARLEY
Director Bill Condon, known for writing Chicago and The Greatest Showman and directing Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, is teaming up with Disney once again, along with musician Stephen Schwartz, who wrote songs for great films like Pocahontas and Enchanted, as well as Broadway’s Wicked. Their new project will be a fresh take on the classic tale A Christmas Carol and will be a live-action musical called Marley.
THR describes the film as follows:
Titled Marley, the feature aims to reinvent the well-known story by conveying it through the eyes of Jacob Marley, the deceased business partner of Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge, of course, is the cold-hearted miser who, in the bulk of Charles Dickens’ classic, is visited by the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future, who give him a chance to change his ways. Marley’s apparition, weighed down by chains and endless torment, visits Scrooge and foretells the man of his impending ghostly visits.
The script and music has already been written, and now we just have to wait and see who gets cast. It sounds like it could be pretty spectacular though. This film has nothing to do with the “Christmas Carol” project that was recently announced by Apple that involves Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell.
