Disney is Reportedly Developing a Live-Action RAPUNZEL Movie
Disney sure does love their live-action remakes and it’s safe to assume that one day they will have live-action versions of all their classic animated films. According to The Disinsider, one of the next projects in their remake pipeline is the story of Rapunzel, the animated film of which was titled Tangled.
There’s no word on if the live-action film will actually be a full-on remake of Tangled but Ashleigh Powell (The Nutcracker and the Four Realms) is writing the script. The movie will be produced by Michael De Luca (Moneyball, Captain Phillips) and Kristin Burr (Christopher Robin). Studio executive Zoe Kent, who is working on the live-action Lilo and Stitch for Disney+ and Jessica Virtue (Mulan 2020) will oversee the project with Lucy Kitada (Eleanor & Park).
The movie will get a theatrical release and the studio is currently on the hunt for a director. The story centers on the beautiful princess Rapunzel, who has been locked away in a tower since she was captured as a baby by an old hag. Her magical long blonde hair has the power to provide eternal youth, and the evil Gothel uses this power to keep her young. At the age of 18, Rapunzel becomes curious about the outside world, and when a prince uses her tower as a refuge, she asks him to help her escape.
I enjoyed the animated film, but like most of the live-action remakes Disney makes, I don’t really need to see the story told again in live-action form.
