Disney Is Reportedly Not Impressed with THE NEW MUTANTS and DEADPOOL Will Alternate Between R and PG-13 Ratings

It’s been extremely rough for Fox since the deal with Disney closed. There have been a ton of layoffs and almost all of the film projects that were in development at the studio have been scrapped.

One of the films that survived and is getting a theatrical release is the X-Men film The New Mutants. The movie comes from director Josh Boone, but according to a new report from Variety, the studio is “unimpressed” with the film that has a haunted-house horror vibe, and they believe “it has limited box office potential.”

Yeah, there’s not a lot of confidence there so I imagine they won’t end up pushing the marketing for it prior to its April 2020 release. I can’t see them spending money on marketing a film that they don’t have confidence in.

Personally, I’m excited about the film! I’ve liked what I’ve seen from it so far and I’m sure it will end up being an entertaining movie. At least it’ll be better than Dark Phoenix!

It was also confirmed that Disney and Marvel is “grappling with how to fit the very R-rated Deadpool into its PG-13-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe.” Right now they plan is to have the character “move seamlessly between ‘Avengers’ spinoffs and bloody, profane stand-alone adventures.” They are in the process of trying to figure out the best way to do that.

It’s good to know that they still want to keep the R-rated version of Deadpool and that they also want to fit him in with other MCU films! I wasn’t sure if that would be possible, but I’m confident that Kevin Feige and his team will find an effective way to pull it off that will make fans happy.
