Disney is Reviving HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS with Josh Gad Set To Star
Well, I guess this was bound to happen. According to /Film Disney is looking to revive the Honey, I Shrunk The Kids franchise with a new sequel film called Shrunk. The movie will be set in the same universe as the original films and Josh Gad will take on the role of Adam Szalinski, the son of Rick Moranis’ character Wayne Szalinski in the original films.
In the original Joe Johnston-directed film, Moranis played a scientist father who builds a shrinking machine that accidentally shrinks his kids and their neighbor’s kids to a quarter of an inch in size. They then embark on an adventure through their back yard to get home and along the way they have to fight to survive giant bugs and other obstacles.
According to the report, the new movie is being “positioned as a ‘legecyequel,’ which means it will exist in the same world and continue the overall storyline. And yes, Adam Szalinski accidentally shrinks his kids, which kickstarts the story of the film.”
I loved the original movie when I was a kid and I actually think that it’s pretty cool that the story of at least one of these characters will continue. I really wish that they would get Rick Moranis to come back, but I seriously doubt that will happen. I just miss seeing him in the movies. I loved his films as a kid!
Disney is currently on the hunt for a director who is a fan of the franchise. It’s explained that they want a filmmaker “who has nostalgia for the original property.”
In case you wondering, this film will get a theatrical released and will not be a Disney+ exclusive. This could actually end up being a solid and entertaining film, especially with Gad in the lead role. He’s a pretty funny actor that brings a lot of great energy to the characters he plays. It’s not hard to imagine him as Rick Moranis’ son.
What do you think about Disney developing a new Honey, I Shrunk The Kids movie with Josh Gad in the lead role?
