Disney+ Orders New Anime Series PHOENIX: EDEN 17 From ASTRO BOY Creator and There's a Teaser Trailer
Disney+ has ordered the new anime series titled Phoenix: Eden 17, which is based on the "epic cult manga" Phoenix by Osamu Tezuka. Tezuka has had a long career working in manga, anime, and animation and his projects include Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion, Black Jack, Dororo, and more.
Tezuka viewed his Phoenix project as his "life's work," and the manga was an anthology of 12 standalone stories set in different eras of time, from prehistoric history to the distant future. It was never completed because the creator passed away in 1989. But, it’s considered one of the greatest mangas ever created. This is a big and exciting project for Disney, and I hope that they do it justice! There’s no doubt it will be heavily scrutinized by fans.
In the story, Romy, and her partner left a collapsed Earth and traveled to the planet Eden 17 where they are looking to start a new life. However, life on that planet has already been exterminated, and Romi finds herself having to live an even harsher life on this new planet.
The anime is being produced by Studio 4°C and will stream worldwide exclusively on Disney + in 2023.
