Disney Reveals Teaser for New THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS Sequel Novel
Disney isn't finished exploring the strange and wonderful world of The Nightmare Before Christmas. More than three decades after the stop-motion classic first introduced audiences to Halloween Town, Jack Skellington, Sally, and a cast of unforgettable characters, the story is continuing with a brand-new sequel novel that arrives next week.
Originally brought to life through the imagination of Tim Burton and realized on screen by Henry Selick and his incredibly talented team, The Nightmare Before Christmas has grown into one of Disney's most beloved cult classics. Its mix of spooky charm, heartfelt storytelling, and unforgettable characters has made it a seasonal favorite that fans revisit every year between Halloween and Christmas.
Now Disney Publishing is expanding that mythology once again with The Nightmare Before Christmas: Shadow Over the Pumpkin Queen, the third and final installment in the popular "Pumpkin Queen" novel series.
The books shift the spotlight to Sally as she embraces life as the Pumpkin Queen alongside Jack Skellington. The trilogy began with Long Live the Pumpkin Queen by Shea Ernshaw in 2022, which followed Sally as she adjusted to her new responsibilities while trying to leave behind her past as Dr. Finklestein's creation.
Along the way, she discovered an entirely new realm known as Dream Town, opening the door to even more corners of this strange universe.
The adventure continued in 2025 with Hour of the Pumpkin Queen, written by Megan Shepherd, Regina Choi, and Olga T. In that story, Sally found herself caught in the mysteries of Time Town, where she had to untangle a dangerous time travel mystery to find her way back home.
Now Shepherd returns to wrap up Sally's journey with Shadow Over the Pumpkin Queen. This time, Halloween Town and its allies across the Hinterlands face a dangerous new enemy. The dark prince of Shadow Town launches an attack, kidnapping several residents, including Jack himself.
Sally is forced into another dangerous quest that takes her through brand-new realms as she fights to rescue those she's lost and defend Halloween Town. Disney is also teasing some major revelations that could change this corner of the Nightmare Before Christmas mythology in some surprising ways.
The novel continues Disney Publishing's effort to connect the worlds fans enjoy through Disney+ and other entertainment with original stories in book form. While the series is aimed at younger readers, there's little doubt longtime fans of The Nightmare Before Christmas will also want to see how Sally's story comes to an end.
The Nightmare Before Christmas: Shadow Over the Pumpkin Queen will be released on July 7, giving fans another chance to step back into one of Disney's most imaginative and enduring fantasy worlds.
