Disney Screens STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Footage for Shareholders, and It May Prove Something About Rey's Parents

We still aren't 100% sure when the public will see the first teaser for Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi (next month's Star Wars Celebration seems like a good bet), but in the meantime, it's good to be a Disney shareholder. They were shown some secret footage from the movie during a shareholders meeting with Disney CEO Bob Iger yesterday, and L.A. Times reporter Daniel Miller was on hand to relay descriptions of the footage to those of us who weren't in the room. (Warning: potential spoilers about Rey's family lineage ahead, so tread carefully if you want to go into the movie completely unspoiled.)

Confirmed: Luke Skywalker has NOT lost his ability to speak! That's good news for Mark Hamill, who was silent in his one minute of screen time during The Force Awakens. More importantly, though, it seems as if this might hint at Rey not being a secret Skywalker. (If she were, one would assume that Luke would recognize his own daughter.) That's still unconfirmed, because this was obviously shown out of context, but it's certainly enough to speculate about.

I'm excited about all of this — especially the varied locations, which I'm hoping factor into this movie in a big way. What do you all think? I can't wait to see some damn footage from this thing myself!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
