Disney Starting Development on MALEFICENT 2
According to Deadline, Disney has started developing a sequel to their 2014 Angelina Jolie fantasy film Maleficent. The studio has already hired screenwriter Linda Wolverton (writer of the first film) to write it, and it will obviously once again focus on the title character. The studio is hoping that Jolie will return to reprise her role, and they are keeping her in the loop in the writing process. There’s no guarantee that Jolie will return, but it would be kind of weird to follow through with the sequel if she doesn’t.
I personally wasn’t a big fan of the first movie. It could have been so much better. I just didn’t like the fact that she wasn’t the villain that I was expecting her to be. The animated version of Maleficent in Disney's animated classic Sleeping Beauty was way more badass than the version in the live-action film. That being said, I’m not really excited that Disney is looking to make a sequel, but I know a lot of fans out there that will be.
