Disney Studios Video Tour Shows Off The Hidden Tunnels Under The Animation Buildings
I had no idea that there were tunnels underneath the original animation buildings at Walt Disney Studios, but there are and in a recent video from Disney Parks, Walt Disney Archives Director Becky Cline offers a tour of the hidden tunnels and it’s pretty cool.
In the video Cline talks about the purpose and reasoning that went into the creation of the original Disney animation buildings and why they included underground tunnels.
The fact that there are tunnels under them may seem a little strange and mysterious, but there is a reason. The tunnels allowed animators during the years of traditional hand animation to move animation cels from one building to another without exposing them to the elements. This way the animators work had less of a chance of being damaged.
