Disney Submits a STAR WARS: VISIONS Short for Academy Award Consideration
I sure did enjoy the series of Star Wars animated short films that made up Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Visions series. I know some people don’t feel the same way, but those shorts were a lot of fun for me to watch!
Disney is pretty proud of the animated shorts as well and they have actually submitted one of the nine shorts for Academy Award consideration. So which one of the segments did they think was their best shot at getting a Best Animated Short nomination? The Village Bride, which was created by Kinema Citrus, the studio that is best known for the likes of Made in Abyss and The Rising of the Shield Hero.
I think this is a solid choice. The Village Bride was definitely one of my favorites. The story follows a Jedi on the run, who is summoned by an old ally to take in the unique customs of a remote village under threat by a warlord.
If you haven’t watched Star Wars: Visions yet, you should! The shorts are beautifully crafted and tell wonderfully unique stories that are inspired by the universe that George Lucas created.
Disney also submitted the animated short Us Again, which was a Disney+ exclusive that was attached to the theatrical run of Raya and the Last Dragon. They also submitted two shorts from Pixar Animation, Twentysomething and Nona, which were part of the SparkShorts series on Disney+.
