Disney+ Will Include The Entire Disney Motion Picture Library including What's in The Disney Vault

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger recently teased what fans can expect to see show up on the Disney+ streaming service. We know that there is currently a lot of original content being produced for the service, and we knew that a lot of Disney shows and movies would be made available, we just didn’t know exactly how much of that would be included… until now.

Iger said that Disney+ will eventually house the “entire Disney motion picture library”, and that will include e everything that has been locked away in the legendary Disney Vault. As for when that would happen, all Iger would say is “at some point.” Here’s his full comment:

The service, which I mentioned earlier is going to launch later in the year, is going to combine what we call library product, movies, and television, with a lot of original product as well, movies and television. And at some point fairly soon after launch it will house the entire Disney motion picture library, so the movies that you speak of that traditionally have been kept in a “vault” and brought out basically every few years will be on the service. And then, of course, we’re producing a number of original movies and original television shows as well that will be Disney-branded.

For those of you who don’t know how the Disney Vault works, after the studio offers the film to buy for a limited time, they put the film in the “vault” and is not made available again for several years. So, pretty much, Disney+ will bring an end to the vault marketing ploy.

In case you’re wondering what Disney films are currently in the vault, you can see a list of them here. There are a lot of classic animated films on the list.

With the Iger saying that the entire motion picture library will be made available on Disney+, will that include some of Walt Disney’s more controversial films like Song of the South? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
