Disneyland Shuts Down as Coronavirus Sweeps the Nation

Disney has announced that they are officially shutting down their California theme parks, Disneyland and California Adventure, as COVID-19 escalates and sweeps the nation.

The park will shut down of March 14th and will stay closed through the end of the month. Hotels will stay open through March 16th so that guests will have time to make other travel arrangements. Downtown Disney will remain open, and Disney will continue to pay cast members during this time.

California Governor Gavin Newsom, citing California public health officials, recently said that gatherings of more than 250 people should be postponed or canceled across the state until at least the end of March. Disneyland was initially exempt from this, but they still made the decision to shut down.

Here’s the announcement that was shared:

“While there have been no reported cases of Covid-19 at Disneyland Resort, after carefully reviewing the guidelines of the Governor of California’s executive order, and in the best interested of our guests and employees, we are proceeding with the closure of Disneyland Park ad Disney California Adventure, beginning the morning of March 14 through the end of the month.”

This is the fourth time in history that Disneyland has shut down. It also closed down after 9/11, the Northridge earthquake, and the national day of mourning after the JFK assassination.
