Disney+'s COVEN ACADEMY Trailer Unleashes Witch Powers, Vampires, and a Forbidden Love Triangle
Disney is mixing witchcraft, vampires, dangerous romance, and supernatural school drama in Coven Academy, and the full trailer gives us our best look yet at the magical trouble brewing in New Orleans.
Set to Olivia Rodrigo’s “Brutal,” the trailer follows Briar, played by Malina Pauli Weissman, as she discovers that being a witch comes with a pretty brutal learning curve of its own. She’s trying to get control of her newly discovered powers at Coven Academy, but exploding magic isn’t her only complication.
Briar also finds herself caught between Jake, played by Malachi Barton, and Ollie, played by Louis Thresher, kicking off a forbidden love triangle involving a dangerous warlock and a newly turned vampire. Apparently magical homework wasn’t enough to worry about.
Coven Academy takes place in the haunted heart of New Orleans, where three teenage witches attend an elite magic boarding school alongside some dangerously charming warlocks.
At this school, supernatural power carries serious weight, secrets can get people killed, and romantic attraction has the potential to make an already volatile situation much worse.
As ancient supernatural conflicts begin closing in, the young coven is forced to figure out just how far they’re willing to go to protect New Orleans and themselves.
Weissman leads the cast as Briar, a strong and independent New Yorker whose life changes when she learns she’s a witch. Barton’s Jake is a magnetic warlock with a dangerous side, while Jordan Leftwich plays Sasha, an empathic student capable of reading minds.
Ora Duplass stars as Tegan, an irreverent witch who can bend time, and Thresher’s Ollie is a hungry new vampire. Tiffani Thiessen takes charge of the academy as Miss Graves, the school’s formidable and glamorous leader.
The series also brings in Devon Sawa as special guest star Mr. Cole, a brilliant and charismatic warlock professor. The recurring cast includes Swayam Bhatia as McKenna, Brendon Tremblay as Alexander, Keegan Connor Tracy as Tamora, BJ Harrison as Agnes, and Nathaniel Logan McIntyre as Teese.
Created by Tim Federle, the new supernatural teen series premieres October 1 on Freeform, followed the next day on Disney+, Hulu, and Freeform On Demand.
