Disney's Live-Action LILO & STITCH Movie Will Be Helmed by Dean Fleischer-Camp

Disney has hired Dean Fleischer-Camp to helm their upcoming live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch. His name may not sound familiar to you, but he is the director of the recently released indie film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. I haven’t seen that movie yet, but it looks like a very weird yet charming movie.

The project was announced back in 2018 with up-and-comer Mike Van Waes penning the script. The studio is now looking at hiring Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, who is in final negotiations to take a crack at the new script.

The original film is such a wonderful movie. It was set in Hawaii and told the story of the bond formed between a lonely young girl named Lilo and a lovable, yet dangerous alien named Stitch, who was engineered to be a force of destruction. The central theme of the film is the bond of family, but the story also includes Lilo and Stitch on the run from pursuing aliens and social workers.

This upcoming movie is intended to be a live-action/CG hybrid. I’m not the biggest fan of these live-action Disney remakes, but it’ll be interesting to see how Fleischer-Camp brings this story to life.

Have any of you seen Marcel the Shell with Shoes On? Do you think this director will do a good job with the film?
