Disney's Live-Action MULAN adds Jet Li and Gong Li To The Cast

Yesterday, we learned that Donnie Yen will play Commander Tung in Disney’s live-action Mulan film. Now we have two more big stars added: Jet Li and Gong Li.

THR reports that Jet Li is in final negotiations right now and will be cast as the emperor of China. You know, the guy who sends out the conscription order of one male per household. Gong Li, on the other hand, has been cast as the movie’s villain. That’s right, Gong Li will play Shan Yu! I’m just kidding. Disney has decided to change things up a bit from the animated film, and instead of facing off against Shan Yu and the Huns, Mulan will have to face an evil witch.

Yen, Li, and Li will be joining Liu Yifei who is set to play the heroine Hua Mulan. The director of the film is Niki Caro who has also directed Whale Rider and The Zookeeper's Wife. Sadly, the songs from the animated film won’t be making it into this version, but seeing Yen and Jet Li added to the roster have really peaked my interest. The film is currently slated for release on May 27, 2020.
