Disney's MULAN Undergoing Extensive Reshoots Ahead of Its March Release

Disney’s latest live-action remake, Mulan, has hit another controversial snag. The film has been getting a bit of a side-eye from fans since first hearing that the character Mushu was repleaced by a non-talking Phoenix. And some were a bit confused by the musical aspect of the film, after hearing that only some of the original songs will be included, and they will only be played over the film, but not sung by the characters.

The star of the film, Yifei Liu, also faced some backlash when she was recently vocal on social media about her support of the police in Hong Kong amid the political protests that are currently going on in the area. I don’t really care about what the actress thinks about current affairs. I just hope she makes a good Mulan.

And now the film is reportedly going to be undergoing some major reshoots before the expected March release date. While this isn’t typically huge news, because most big budget films with battle scenes and extensive shots do end up having to do reshoots, this situation is slightly more bleak, as the film has reportedly had some pretty poor responses from early test screenings.

Hopefully they are able to get it together so they can put out a film that is exciting and well done. I doubt Disney would put out anything subpar, so I am betting we will get a good final product. And I don’t mind that they are changing up the film from the animated version. I’d rather be surprised and see something fresh and beautiful. I’m looking forward to Mulan. Are you?

Mulan hits theaters on March 27, 2020.
