Disney’s STAR WARS Theme Park Attractions Will Based on New Films
Up until this point, the only main Star Wars attraction that exists at Disneyland is Star Tours and a live show or two — I freakin’ love Star Tours, by the way. But, as expected, we are about to see an influx of Star Wars attractions hitting the Disneyland theme parks, and at Variety’s Dealmakers Breakfast, Disney Chairman and CEO, Bob Iger, revealed that the attractions we see will be based on the upcoming films rather than the older ones. This is what he had to say:
“There will be a much larger ‘Star Wars’ presence in our parks globally. But we want to do this big, which takes time, and to do it right… I didn’t want someone to say, ‘I just saw the movie and there’s nothing in that movie in this (attraction).’ We waited to see what this film would have in it.”
Iger then confirmed that Disney’s Imagineering team have been in early development on attractions based on the old films, but all of that was discontinued once they knew exactly what their upcoming slate of films would look like, and how the elements in those films could be used in their parks.
“We couldn’t tell them what was new. I slowed it all down so what we come forward with will have a blend of the past, present and maybe the future. Now we have a sense of what’s in ‘Star Wars 8,’ and what some of the standalone films will have in them.”
I love the fact that they are going to offer a blend of everything for both the new and old fans of the Star Wars saga. Disney will offer us our first look at the new Star Wars attractions next year, which is just in time for the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on December 18th.
