DISTURBIA Director D.J. Caruso in Talks to Direct the ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? Film

Paramount Pictures is looking to finally move forward with their feature film adaptation of Nickelodeon’s popular ’90s television series Are You Afraid of the Dark?

According to Bloody-Disgusting, Disturbia and Eagle Eye director D.J. Caruso is in talks to helm the film from a script written by Gary Dauberman, who recently wrote the adaptation of Stephen King’s It.

When previously talking about the film project, Dauberman said it will “honor the darker, scarier tone of the show.” The show itself revolved around a group of teenagers who referred to themselves as The Midnight Society. Every week, at a secret location in the woods, one member would tell a scary story to the rest of the group, some of which were based on public domain fairy tales, short stories, or urban legends.

Caruso seems like a decent choice to take on the project, especially with a film like Disturbia under his belt. I really enjoyed that movie. Some of his more recent directing gigs include The Disappointments Room and xXx: Return of Xander Cage.

Paramount Pictures is looking to released Are You Afraid of the Dark? in theaters on October 11, 2019.
