Djimon Hounsou Cast as Merlin Type Character in Guy Ritchie’s KING ARTHUR

Director Guy Ritchie is deep in the casting process for his upcoming King Arthur movie, and he has cast Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy) in the role of a character that is equivalent to the wizard Merlin. Idris Elba was looking to play this character at one point but he passed.

The reimagined story of King Arthur that Warner Bros and Ritchie want to tell will potentially span six films. The source material being used is based on Thomas Mallory’s “Le Morte d’Arthur,” which was published in 1485 as a compilation of French and English tales. Arthur was a 6th century King, who defended Britain against Saxon invaders.

Hunsou joins Charlie Hunnam as Arthur, Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinevere and possibly Jude Law as the villain. The first of these films is scheduled to be released on July 22nd, 2016.
