DOCTOR STRANGE Director Scott Derrickson Would Direct a CONSTANTINE Movie for DC
With director Scott Derrickson stepping away as the director of Marvel’s Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, chances are he won’t be coming back to direct another Marvel movie. It seems like maybe he’s ready to move on as he didn’t have the kind of creative freedom with the sequel that he had with the first film.
When James Gunn was removed as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for a short time, he wasted no time in jumping over to DC where he chose to direct The Suicide Squad. A fan reached out to Derrickson on Twitter to ask him if he’d be interested on taking on a Justice League Dark film, and when the director responded, he revealed he would rather make a solo Constantine film.
That makes sense. Constantine is pretty much the Doctor Strange of the DC universe. The two characters share similar abilities and battle villains of the mystic and demonic variety. I’d say Strange is more powerful, though. While Constantine is an occult detective and more of a working class… warlock. Their personalities are also very different, but they are both great characters involved with dark and fun stories.
John Constantine was created by Alan Moore, Stephen R. Bissette, Rich Veitch, and John Totleben, and he made his first appearance in The Saga of Swamp Thing in June 1985 and went on to be the center of his own comic book storyline titled Hellblazer.
While we’ve seen a couple different versions of this character brought to life by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 film and Matt Ryan taking over the role for TV, I’d love to see Derrickson’s take on on the character! There’s no doubt that he’d have fun with him and do some incredibly awesome things with him.
Would you like to see Derrickson make a solo Constantine movie?
