DOCTOR WHO Teaser Trailer Reveals David Tennet Is Back as The Doctor with Ncuti Gatwa Set to Follow
Jodie Whittaker’s run as the 13th Doctor in the BBC’s popular sci-fi series Doctor Who has come to an end, and it was revealed that David Tennant is back as The Doctor! He was originally the 10th Doctor, and now he is also the 14th Doctor, which makes things interesting!
We have a teaser trailer for you to watch showing Tennent back in the role, and he will be joined by Catherine Tate who is reprising her role of Donna Noble. This is for the show’s 60th anniversary, and the BBC has confirmed that they will appear in three special episodes, set to air in November 2023.
After that three-episode run the next version of the Doctor will be played by Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa, with his first episode airing over the festive period in 2023.
BBC shared in a statement: “David Tennant, previously known as the 10th Doctor, is now also known as the 14th Doctor. Confused? Don’t worry, he seems a little perplexed too.”
Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies said: “If you thought the appearance of David Tennant was a shock, we’ve got plenty more surprises on the way. The path to Ncuti’s 15th Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger and fun. And how is it connected to the return of the wonderful Donna Noble? How, what, why? We’re giving you a year to speculate, and then all hell lets loose.”
Speaking to the BBC’s Today, Tennant said he was “worried it would be difficult to get in the groove again but it has been straightforward. We’ve managed to keep the essence of the show and the world now has a very exciting moment to look forward to. Doctor Who was a wonderful time in my life and it runs through me like a stick of rock so to be part of that show, go on that journey and return to it when I thought it was a memory has been an absolute present.”
It was also revealed that Heartstopper actor Yasmin Finney joined the cast of the specials as Rose. There’s also a mysterious new character played by Neil Patrick Harris.
Davies said earlier this year: “Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder, how can there be another Rose? You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set. We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world – and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse.”
