Documentary Based on Fan Favorite Series GILMORE GIRLS in the Works at HBO Max
Warner Bros. Television is working on a documentary that revisits the fan-favorite coming-of-age series Gilmore Girls.
The untitled doc will cover the run of the show, which aired from 2000 to 2007. In Waves and War and Athlete A helmer Bonni Cohen will direct. The film marks the first-ever authorized doc about Gilmore Girls, more than 25 years after it premiered.
Offering a rare insider view into the creation of Gilmore Girls, told straight from creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, featuring star Lauren Graham as well as additional key cast and crew.
The documentary will reveal how the show eclipsed expectations to become a cross-generational phenomenon by unpacking the unique alchemy of the creators, cast, crew, and collaborators. The film includes never-before-seen outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage, and script pages.
The series, which is a personal favorite, found its bigger fan base in syndication and on streaming, and when the Netflix revival Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life debuted, it was a huge hit.
The series of four 90-minute telepics premiered in 2016, and it held us over while simultaneously teasing us with a cliffhanger. While we wait for another revival one day, this documentary will be a ton of fun for fans to enjoy. Stay tuned for updates.
