Teaser Trailer For a CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND Theatrical Re-Release

Update: The trailer has been confirmed to be for a theatrical re-release of the classic Steven Spielberg sci-fi film for the 40th Anniversary. We'll get to see Close Encounters of the Third Kind on the big screen!

A mysterious trailer showed up on the Youtube channel for Sony Pictures Entertainment. The only thing clear about the teaser is that it is about a UFO encounter, and it contains direct references to Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The trailer is simply titled "This Means Something" and features an air traffic controller's interaction with a pilot and his encounter with an Unidentified Flying Object. Flashes of the 1977 film Close Encounters are also seen in the teaser.

The teaser also links to the website WeAreStillNotAlone.com, a page that merely asks visitors to “sign up” for news on UFO sightings. Is there a chance this video is teasing a sequel to the iconic 40-year-old sci-fi movie? Maybe, but it could also be an announcement for a special Blu-Ray release of some kind too. EW reached out to Sony about the teaser, but they have not responded.
